Nepal has one of the highest rates of child marriage in Asia, despite laws against it. Preliminary analysis from the latest census shows that one in five women (22%) aged 20-24 years married as children. 3% are married before turning 15 (Preliminary analysis from Census 2021 data). To address the harmful practices and prevention of gender-based violence, UNFPA is currently rolling out the social and financial life skill package ‘Rupantaran’ program in several parts of Nepal, reaching approximately 5000 young people in a year. The package is developed by the Ministry of Women, Children and Senior Citizens in coordination with UNFPA and UNICEF.
